A Relational School recognises our interconnectedness and places an emphasis on building, maintaining and repairing relationships. It understands that human beings are inherently social and that our well-being and development are shaped by the quality of our relationships. A Relational School prioritises mutual respect, empathy and collaboration in all our interactions. It encourages individuals to value the different perspectives, experiences and emotions of others, fostering a sense of trust and belonging.
We have a vision that all settings will be relationally driven in their ethos, culture, practice, and policy. Integral to this vision is finding a way to improve school behaviour whilst building better relationships and ensuring that your school values are actually lived. Where behaviour policies of old may focus on sanctions given to pupils for certain behaviours, relational behaviour policies focus on the causes behind behaviour and positive relationships as the cornerstone to building self-esteem and a sense of belonging in all pupils.
In collaboration with services across the local authority, we are delighted to be relaunching our relational practice offer for all schools and education providers within Peterborough at our Virtual School Conference in December. This conference is for school leaders and those looking to influence cultural change in our schools.
