Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Children who have additional needs may receive further support from the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) in their school or setting. This is a statutory post in every school. Every education setting’s website will have a section related to SEND. This will detail who the school SENCo is and their ‘SEND offer’.

If you have concerns of a SEND nature, in the first instance you should contact the school and request a discussion with the child’s class teacher or SENCo. They will be able to fully support you with your questions and potential next steps.

If a child has a SEND need already identified, school will also be able to share what provision is in place for them, how they record this and opportunities you will have to discuss and be part of their ‘Graduated Approach’ planning.
