🌟 Mentoring

The Care Leaver Mentoring Scheme is a key initiative by Peterborough City Council, coordinated through the Virtual School, aimed at improving education, employment, and training outcomes for care-experienced young people. Care leavers are matched with mentors based on compatibility and mutual goals. Sessions are flexible in format taking place either in person (in safe, public spaces) or online via Teams. The focus is on building a trusting relationship that supports the mentee’s aspirations. Mentors keep a light-touch log of progress, with the mentee’s consent.

Our mentors can offer:

  • Guidance and encouragement to help mentees identify and pursue their goals.
  • Practical support with education, training, and employability skills.
  • Confidence-building and help in developing independence.
  • Networking opportunities to expand professional connections.
  • Preparing for interviews (questions likely to be asked etc) and CV support.

🧑🏫 Mentors Training and Commitment to you.

Our mentors are required to complete a comprehensive training package, which includes:

  • Understanding the bespoke needs of care leavers and corporate parenting responsibilities.
  • Safeguarding training.
  • Mentoring skills development.

All our mentors undergo an enhanced DBS check and commit to meeting their mentee for about one hour every fortnight. You will be in safe hands!
